Donuts, is there anything they can't do?
I love a good donut. I don't have them very often, but when I do it always feels like a special treat to me. When I lived in Muncie one of my favorite places (and the best place) to get donuts was at the local bakery, Concannon's. Donuts from grocery stores or convience stores can be okay, but there is nothing like a good fresh bakery donut. I'm not sure where the best donuts are here in the north Indy suburbs. It's definitely something I want to seek out. I like to keep it simple. No cream or jelly fillings for me. If you have a recommendation I want to hear it.
If you live in North Indy you might try Taylor's Bakery. There is one at 62nd and Allisonville and one in Fishers. They also used to have cannolis.
ReplyDeleteWell, I know you said north, but, for the absolute best donuts you need to try Long's near 16th and Lafayette Road. Go early in the morning and get a box of donuts so warm you can barely hold them on your lap! They melt in your mouth! And try the caramel iced alligator...all time best breakfast pastry ever!!! This is one of those places that make you feel like you've stepped back in time, and, they only take cash.
ReplyDeleteThe two best I've had are the ones already said - Long's and Taylor's. But my preference is Long's - great custard filled and the completely melt in your mouth. Worth the drive (or if you can con someone to bring them to work like I do - try that) from the north burbs.
ReplyDeleteMy husband swears by Long's doughnuts. They are really good.
ReplyDeleteYou're all making me want Long's Donuts, but I just wish it wasn't so out of the way for me. I just never have a reason to be any farther south than Broadripple. If you all are adamant I might have to make a special trip some weekend.
ReplyDeleteLongs and Taylor's are both outstanding. Daylight Donuts on Olie Road is another good shop.
ReplyDeleteI was going to suggest Daylight Donuts as well...maybe not on the same level as Long's but it's a lot closer and they make some very tasty donuts.
ReplyDelete116th and Olio.
